Discworld, and the Fundraiser

Wedding receptions are OK. Wedding receptions with a theme are better. When the theme is Discworld, our favorite fantasy setting... yes, we can firmly state that it did have rocks in.

Costumes

Guests were encouraged (although not required) to dress as a Discworld character, or as nearly any fantasy character (most would be at home on Discworld). Medieval/renaissance attire was in evidence. Some of the costumes were extremely well done, notably the groom's parents (standing behind the bride and groom in this picture), who made their own.

Greg was dressed as Cmdr. Samuel Vimes, and Susan as Lady Sybil Ramkin-Vimes.

Colour Scheme

If you're wondering about a color scheme for the wedding -- it was octarine, of course. With periwinkle and silver accents.

The Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons

Lady Sybil Ramkin founded the Sunshine Sanctuary, and spends much of her time nursing swamp dragons back to health (unless, regrettably, they explode). Guests who wished to show they cared for these poor mistreated creatures were encouraged to make a donation. All proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets will go to support the Sanctuary*. A few lucky folks went home with a piece of Ankh-Morpork memorabilia.

"Please don't let their flames go out."

Cuisine

We served Discworld-themed food as found in Nanny Ogg's Cookbook. The dwarf bread, mercifully, was soft enough to eat.

Respecting the vegetarians among us, there were dishes on offer without any rat in them whatsoever. Vegetarian dishes are indicated below in bold.
